The New Face Of Consumerism

I shop, therefore, I am.Baltimore, MD - 2009/10/17 -- With all of the recent hype about facebook, twitter, social networking, social media and the like, a new form of virtual social interaction is emerging: Social Consumerism.  It is ushering in a new form of monetization for marketing consumer goods and services to the masses.  By giving the consumer a voice, and by enabling the consumer to share in the revenue from advertising and sales marketed directly to them, the consumer is able to share in the power of a market economy, rather than just being subject to it.

Let me digress for a moment.  I am fast becoming a professional Internet surfer, and I found a website that has made me aware of this new phenomenon.  I'll get to the name in a moment.  Recently, I have become infatuated with traffic exchanges and pay to click websites such as Clixsense and Neobux.  Traffic exchanges exist to provide opportunity for the average Internet Marketer to gain exposure for their websites, as well as providing revenue sharing opportunities for marketers that participant in these exchanges.  At their core, traffic exchanges function on a multi-level referral model that enables members to leverage the efforts of those below them in the matrix structure of the particular traffic exchange.  I mention this only to say that having immersed myself in traffic exchanges for the last 2 weeks I did not notice the fact that this relatively new consumer base social network has, at its core, a multi-level matrix structure for financially compensating its members as well.  This is a point that aught to be considered, which is why I mentioned it.  The reasons why it aught to be considered I will leave up to you.

In October of 2004 the domain name PeopleString.com was registered by the Big String Corporation, from New Jersey.  From what I can gather on the Internet, People String began at the start of 2009, with a launch some time in late February, or early March.  People String, as a social network, is giving a collective voice back to consumers by empowering them through revenue sharing from advertising and cash back incentives that come from the many companies that People String markets for.  The ideal is for the individual consumer to claim his or her own piece of virtual, or "Digital Real Estate" that enables the consumer to regain a sense of control over one's own purchasing destiny while at the same time enabling one to build a lifelong stream of residual income.  Enlightening the consumer about their innate ability to influence and control the consumer market is an ambitious task, and we shall see if People String is up for it!

People String continues to climb the Alexa rankings.  At the beginning of the week there were ranked somewhere in the high ten thousands.  By weeks end it is ranked the 9543th most visited site on the Internet.  This seems to suggest that People String rapidly is catching on.  The only question that remains is, will it change the face of Consumerism in the months and years to come?  One thing is certain, where ever consumption is taking place in mass, vast amount of financial gain is sure to follow.
